WE HAVE A NEW HOME!
WERC is moving to a new center and we need your help
After nearly three decades of repurposing, repairing, and remodeling the space we called home, WERC is excited to announce our move to a new 5-acre facility. This expansion allows us to enhance our operations and fully realize our mission as a sanctuary for injured wildlife, a dedicated wildlife advocacy organization, and a hub for environmental education.
Our Story
WERC was founded by Sue Howell in 1991. Since then Sue has been actively involved in
wildlife rehabilitation and wildlife education. Sue is a member of NWRA (National Wildlife Rehabilitators Association) and a founding member of CCWR (California Council of Wildlife Rehabilitators). John Quick was a co-founder of the Wildlife Education And Rehabilitation Center (WERC) and the first attending veterinarian of the organization. Today his daughter Ashley is the executive director, continuing the family tradition of wildlife rescue.
More than 40 different species will come through our door each year. We also offer educational classes to both adult groups and children.
Help Us Create The Vision
Become a part of a new chapter in WERC history
Our new center is at the old Mendoza ranch off Roop Road in Gilroy. Our new 5-acre facility will significantly enhance WERC’s ability to provide critical care, rehabilitation, and education for the region's wildlife. The site is currently under development as WERC tailors the space to meet the needs of animals in their care. Below, you can see a rendering of our new facility plans.
